Today is Primary Day, so if you have not been able to make up your mind after a full year of the campaign, perhaps these last-minute endorsements will push you over the edge in your decision in the 33rd Council District, which covers Greenpoint, Williamsburg, DUMBO, Brooklyn Heights and parts of Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill and Park Slope:
• Longshot candidate Doug Biviano was endorsed by none other than presidential also-ran Dennis Kucinich. The Ohio representative joined Biviano in Brooklyn Heights on Saturday and called him “an exceptional candidate with the ability to be an outstanding member of the City Council.
Kucinich added, “I want all my supporters in Brooklyn … to go to the polls and vote for him.” Kucinich got all of 840 votes out of 277,000 cast in the entire borough in the February, 2008 presidential primary.
Biviano also won the readers poll of the Brooklyn Heights Blog and locked up the critical endorsement of Brooklyn Paper Smartmom columnist Louise Crawford on her Web site, “Only the Blog Knows Brooklyn.”
• Meanwhile, the Daily News got around to endorsing Evan Thies about a week after The Brooklyn Paper did it first.
• Jo Anne Simon picked up a very lukewarm endorsement from the New York Times.
• Hasidic fireplug Isaac Abraham got the endorsement of Norman Rosenbaum, who is not only an Australian lawyer, but also the brother of Yankel Rosenbaum, the Hasidic scholar who was killed during the Crown Heights riots in 1991.
• Steve Levin sent shockwaves through the race when he put out a flier that appeared to show him being endorsed by still-beloved former president Bill Clinton. But as the fine print revealed, Clinton was merely shaking Levin’s hand, a common gesture of greeting. The other person in the photo, Rep. Carolyn Maloney, actually endorsed Levin.
Oh, well.
